The Plant Therapy Difference in Organic Essential Oils

At Plant Therapy, we believe in making wellness accessible and transparent. That’s why we offer one of the largest selections of USDA Certified Organic essential oils, so you can feel confident about the products you bring into your home.

What Does “Organic” Really Mean for Essential Oils?

Organic essential oils are made from plants that are grown without the use of synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or genetically modified organisms (GMOs). But it's not just about what’s not in them. It’s also about the way the plants are cultivated, harvested, and distilled with care, sustainability, and integrity at every step.

These oils are produced using farming practices that protect natural ecosystems and promote biodiversity. It’s a more holistic approach from seed to bottle.

The Certification Process: From Field to Seal

Getting that little green USDA Organic seal is no small feat. Here’s a peek into what it takes:

  • Certified Organic Farming: The plant material must be grown on soil that hasn’t been treated with prohibited substances for at least three years.

  • Traceability & Testing: Every batch of oil must be documented and traceable, from the farm through the distillation process.

  • Independent Auditing: Third-party certifying agencies conduct rigorous reviews to ensure compliance with USDA standards.

At Plant Therapy, all of our organic essential oils are certified through ECOCERT ICO, a fully accredited inspection and certification organization under the National Organic Program (NOP). ECOCERT ICO is known for its strict standards and thorough inspection process, giving you peace of mind that every drop meets the highest levels of quality and integrity.

Organic vs. Conventional Oils: What's the Real Difference?

Both our organic and non-organic oils go through the same quality testing (GC/MS analysis, organoleptic testing, etc.), so they are equally pure and potent. But if you’re looking to support eco-conscious farming, or simply prefer a more sustainable lifestyle, organic may be the right choice for you.

While some of our conventional oils may come from crops grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers, this is not something we require or independently verify for those products. Our organic oils, however, are certified to be grown, harvested, and processed according to strict USDA Organic standards, giving you an extra layer of assurance.

Some customers also note subtle aroma differences between organic and non-organic oils, often describing organic oils as slightly richer or more complex due to the way the plants are grown.
