Get ‘Em Gone and Other Natural Tips and Tricks For Lice

If you have kids, you’ve likely had a few run-ins with lice throughout their time in school. Even if you avoid sharing hats, the most cautious can get caught with a few creepy crawlies. Opening a “lice breakout” email from the school’s administration or daycare staff is enough to make your stomach drop and your skin crawl.

Get ‘Em Gone Essential Oil Blend

As parents ourselves, we know the challenges that the telltale itchy scalp can cause and we want to help. So Plant Therapy formulated the Get ‘Em Gone Essential Oil blend to help you naturally help remove the problem at its source. Get ‘Em Gone utilizes Palmarosa, Atlas Cedarwood, Citronella, Tea Tree, Bourbon Geranium, Sweet Marjoram, and Coriander essential oils for just that purpose. Additionally, this blend is part of our KidSafe line and is safe for children ages 2 and older.

Some things to know:
  • It’s KidSafe
  • For children and adults ages 2 and older
  • Dilute to 2% in a carrier
  • Not intended for diffusion

Try using this blend in a shampoo wash as a preventative measure or use it in hair masks to supplement your efforts. Try one or both of our favorite natural DIYs the next time you find yourself in a pickle.

Get ‘Em Gone Hair Mask

Hair masks are a great addition to the lice removal process because heavy oils and creams suffocate the critters, or at the very least, stun them so they’re easier to comb out. It’s also important to sift through the hair with a fine-toothed comb to remove any trace. Repeat both of these processes multiple times when you first spot unwanted guests. For a great olive oil treatment, try our Get ‘Em Gone Hair Mask.

What you’ll need:

What you’ll do:

Mix the olive oil and Get ‘Em Gone drops. Apply liberally to the hair and leave for 30 minutes. Comb hair with a fine-tooth comb to remove any trace of unwanted guests. Finally, rinse hair with shampoo to remove oily residue. Repeat 2-3 times as needed.

Other Essential Oils for Deterring Lice

In addition to our Get ‘Em Gone blend, Lavender and Tea Tree Essential Oils are also KidSafe and natural pest deterrents. In 2010, a study was done on the effectiveness of essential oils to help ward off lice, specifically. It found that Lavender and Tea Tree essential oils killed lice in 97.6% of cases. So, if you don’t have Get ‘Em Gone in your essential oil collection yet, try a mixture of Lavender and Tea Tree in the above DIYs for similar benefits.

Plant Therapy loves using natural tips and tricks whenever possible, however, natural methods may take longer to work. If you’re pressed for time or worried about the lice spreading to others in your family, there’s no judgment if you decide to use the store-bought products to get those pesky enemies out ASAP. Natural remedies are great, but a house full of itchy scalps can be upsetting for everyone.
