Is there really any better time in the year to try to learn something new than right now? No way! The new year is here and one of the best ways to celebrate it is to commit yourself to work toward a healthier body and mind.
Learning something new can be a frustrating and daunting experience. Do you have what it takes? Are you even smart enough? Where in the world will you find the time and energy? While learning a new skill definitely takes a huge amount of commitment, there are some essential oils that can provide a bit of support.
And let’s face it, we could all use a little extra support when we’re trying hard to better ourselves.
Let’s take a look at a few essential oils that can help boost your brainpower by promoting clarity, alertness, energy, and more!
Basil Linalool
This is one of the finest oils available for calming and focusing the mind, making it perfect for learning that new skill. It is known to be uplifting while quelling any racing, disorganized thoughts that are hindering your ability to learn. For a clear, focused mind, this is just what you need to stay sharp–in fact, that is exactly why Basil Linalool is used in both our Brain Aid and Clarity blends.
If you’ve had a long day at work and need to unwind a bit before settling down with your new hobby, Basil Linalool’s high linalool content makes it very relaxing and calming. Plus, it is very useful in easing tension in the head and neck area, helping you stay in the right mindset . Diffuse it alone or alongside Bergamot and Clary Sage for a soothing blend. For topical application, dilute to 3% and apply to your wrists for a nice pick-me-up.
Petitgrain
Energize your mood and prepare yourself to learn something new with this bitter-sweet, woody, and floral essential oil. It comforts the mind after a long day and reins in emotions that are running wild . With this, you can settle yourself down peacefully in front of a book, canvas, tightrope (hey—we don’t know what you’re learning. It could be anything!) and enjoy a clear and uplifted mind.
If emotional duress is distracting you away from your goal, try adding 2 drops each of Petitgrain and Mandarin to your diffuser to help lift out of feelings of mental fatigue and nervous exhaustion. You can also dilute to 1-3% and apply to your wrists, inhaling as needed to help stay focused on your present goals.
Rosemary 1,8-Cineole
Throughout history, Rosemary has been known to provide benefits for mental clarity, memory, and concentration. Inhaling the aroma can affect cognition by promoting healthy neurological functions . It also helps your body deliver blood to your brain, which can stimulate your ability to focus and help sharpen your mind. When your mind is ready to absorb new information, you can learn a new skill more quickly and easily, making it a more pleasurable experience overall!
Peppermint Western U.S.
Like Peppermint Essential Oil, the Western U.S. version is wonderfully stimulating and uplifting to the senses. It has that familiar, cool, grassy-minty scent you know and love, but is slightly smoother and more refined. This is due to several minor constituents being at slightly different levels. Learning a new skill can be very unpleasant if your mind is wandering or your energy is low, so Peppermint Western U.S. is a great oil to reach for when you know you could use a bit of a boost!
The aroma is wonderful to enhance alertness. Diffuse it or dilute it to 2-5% in a carrier oil. You can apply topically when you’re feeling a little under the weather or you have muscle and tension discomfort distracting you from your goals.
Jack Pine
If you are someone who is quickly invigorated by the fresh aroma of pine oils, Jack Pine is a must-have when you’re learning something new. It is refreshing and uplifting, helping to create a clear and clean environment that is perfect for exploring new interests. The mood-lifting properties help push away cluttered, unproductive thoughts to promote calm and collected behavior.
